For detailed information please visit the team web site Ben Franklin Fish. For answers to specific questions or help with this information please contact Lindsey Francen at lindseyf@sspr.org 303.730.5219, for additional information and or help.

The Franklin Fish are committed to developing the technical skills of competitive swimming, strengthening friendships and encouraging our swimmers to strive for their personal best. With this in mind, we urge our swimmers, coaches and parents to commit themselves to practice and meets, and to set high goals, as well as to conduct themselves with courtesy, goodwill and sportsmanship.

The Franklin Fish swim team competes in Division D of the Rocky Mountain Swim League. The league has 19 teams divided into four divisions (A, B, C, and D). The swim team is open to any swimmer 5-18 years who can swim one length of the pool, 25 meters. It is a League requirement that all swimmers be able to successfully complete one length of the pool unassisted using one of the four competitive strokes. The age of a swimmer on June 1 determines the age group in which that swimmer will participate. The age group divisions are as follows: 6 & Under; 8 & Under; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; 15-18 years old.

Parent Information night is April 18th at 7 PM at Goodson Recreation Center. For more information, please contact Lindsey Francen.

While participating in meets is not required they are encouraged – this is the fun part! Swimmers are encouraged to not only compete in their favorite events but also try something new; coaches will often suggest an event that challenges the swimmers both mentally and physically. All meets are over by 2 pm.

How do I register my child?
To be a member of the Franklin Fish Swim Team, swimmers must be registered with the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District and pay an annual fee. In 2014, the fee for District residents is $150 and $210 for Non-District residents. The league collects a secondary insurance fee from the team for every swimmer, in addition to league dues per swimmer, regardless of a swimmer’s primary insurance coverage; and an insurance waiver, a copy of which the team must have present at every meet. The insurance/dues fee is included in the South Suburban registration fee. The Franklin Fish Swim Team also collects an additional booster fee that is used for ribbons, supplies, and concession start up costs. The booster fee for 1 child is $40, 2 children is $55, and 3 or more children is $70. In 2014, South Suburban is collecting the insurance waivers and team fees at registration, as well as emergency contact forms.

All registration forms must be completed BEFORE a swimmer may get in the water! Register your child 3 ways:

1. Attend the parent informational meeting April 18th at 7pm at Goodson Recreation Center, 6315 S. University Blvd., Centennial.

2. Register online

3. Call the South Suburban Registration office at 303-347-5999.

Is there anything before the season to help my child get ready?
There are several opportunities for swimmers to get in the water before the season officially starts. South Suburban offers classes at all three
Recreation Centers that are geared towards the summer league swimmer. Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many of these trainings as they can – the more practice the more proficient you’ll be! You can Register for these classes online or call 303-347-5999.

Pre-Season Swim Evaluations
Know someone that’s thinking about joining the team but they aren’t sure? It is a RMSL league requirement that all swimmers be able to successfully swim one length of the pool unassisted using one of the 4 competitive strokes. We use this requirement as a safety measurement, while we would love to have anyone and everyone, we do need to ensure everyone’s safety in the water. Drop in at one of these sessions and a coach will evaluate swimming skills and make an appropriate placement suggestions. All sessions are FREE!

Wednesday April 16th 6-7 pm at Buck Rec. Center

Saturday April 26th 12-1pm at Goodson Rec. Center

Are parents required to volunteer?
From setup to cleanup, swim meets work best when we share the effort. Volunteering at the meets is a great way to meet a lot of terrific people. The meets go by a lot faster when you’re involved. Many teams present their parents with the option of paying a fee to opt out of volunteer duties. We think that runs contrary to our mission of creating an enjoyable and competitive environment for summer swimmers. In an effort to ensure that families fulfill their volunteer requirements we do ask that parents write a $200 check, payable to the team. In the event that the volunteer commitment is not made, the check would be cashed. It is our goal that each family helps throughout the season so that the volunteer checks are not needed.

We ask that a representative from each family volunteer at each meet where their child is participating.  Meets are broken into shifts, morning shift and afternoon shift.  A representative from each family is responsible for volunteering 1 shift per meet where the child is swimming.  Should your swimmer compete in Prelims or Finals a representative from the family is responsible for volunteering one shift at each.

Thanks! Have a GREAT Swim Team Season!
