The Holly Park Sharks are committed to developing the technical skills of competitive swimming, strengthening friendships and encouraging our swimmers to strive for their personal best. With this in mind, we urge our swimmers, coaches and parents to commit themselves to practice and meets, and to set high goals, as well as to conduct themselves with courtesy, goodwill and sportsmanship.
The Holly Park Sharks swim team competes in the D division of the Mountain Hi Swim League. The league has 24 teams divided into four divisions (A, B, C and D). The swim team is open to any swimmer 18 and younger who can swim one length of the pool, 25 meters. It is a League requirement that all swimmers be able to successfully complete one length of the pool unassisted using one of the four competitive strokes. The age of a swimmer on June 1 determines the age group in which that swimmer will participate.
When do they practice?
The Sharks practice at the Holly Pool, 6651 S. Krameria Way. Practices will be held rain or shine, if there is severe weather (thunder and lightening, tornado) practice will be called off; swimmers and/or parents will be notified by text message and the team web site will be updated. Coaches and lifeguards are present at all practices. Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible, the more they practice the faster they will be. There is not a required number of practices in order to participate.

When are swim meets?
Swim meets are held on Saturday mornings. While participating in meets is not required they are encouraged – this is the fun part! Swimmers are encouraged to not only compete in their favorite events but also try something new; coaches will often suggest an event that challenges the swimmers both mentally and physically.
All meets are over by 2pm.
How do I register my child?
To be a member of the Holly Park Sharks team, swimmers must be registered with the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District and pay an annual fee. In 2013, the fee for District residents is $150 and $210 for Non-District residents. The league collects a $9 secondary insurance fee from the team for every swimmer, in addition to $5 league dues per swimmer, regardless of a swimmer’s primary insurance coverage; and an insurance waiver, a copy of which the team must have present at every meet. The insurance/dues fee is included in the South Suburban registration fee. There is also a team booster fee ($15 per swimmer) collected by the team for trophies and special medals given out at the end-of-season banquet, and used to replace or upgrade team equipment not provided by South Suburban. In 2013, South Suburban is collecting the insurance waivers and team fees at registration, as well as emergency contact forms.
All registration forms must be completed BEFORE a swimmer may get in the water!
You can register your child three ways.
1. Attend the parent informational meeting May 1st 7pm at Goodson Rec. Center
2. Visit our registration web page at…..
3. Call our registration office at 303.347.5999
Is there anything before the season to help my child get ready?
There are several opportunities for swimmers to get in the water before the season officially starts. South Suburban offers classes at all three Recreation Centers that are geared towards the summer league swimmer. Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many of these trainings as they can – the more practice the more proficient you’ll be! Holly Park Shark coaches will be present at all sessions. You can register for these classes by visiting our registration page or by calling 303.347.5999

Pre-Season Swim Evaluations –
Know someone that’s thinking about joining the team but they aren’t sure? It is a MHSL league requirement that all swimmers be able to successfully swim one length of the pool unassisted using one of the 4 competitive strokes. We use this requirement as a safety measurement, while we would love to have anyone and everyone, we do need to ensure everyone’s safety in the water. Drop in at one of these sessions and a coach will evaluate swimming skills and make an appropriate placement suggestions. All sessions are at Goodson pool and are FREE!
Wednesday April 24th 6-7 pm at Buck Rec. Center
Saturday April 27th 12-1pm at Goodson Rec. Center
Are parents required to volunteer?
From setup to cleanup, a swim meet works best when we share the effort. Volunteering at the meets is a great way to meet a lot of terrific people. The meets go by a lot faster when you’re involved. Many teams present their parents with the option of paying a fee to opt out of volunteer duties. We think that runs contrary to our mission of creating an enjoyable and competitive environment for summer swimmers. In an effort to ensure that families fulfill their volunteer requirements we do ask that parents write a $100 check, payable to the team. In the event that the volunteer commitment is not made the check would be cashed. It is our goal that each family help throughout the season so that the volunteer checks are not needed.
We ask that a representative from each family volunteer at each meet where their child is participating. Meets are broken into shifts, morning shift and afternoon shift. A representative from each family is responsible for volunteering 1 shift per meet where the child is swimming. Should your swimmer compete in Prelims, Championships or All Stars a representative from the family is responsible for volunteering one shift at each.
