Share the Trail 2015: A Free Safety Awareness Event
Do you know what to do when you're about to pass another person on the trail? How about when you're jogging? Or biking? Or horse-riding? What about when you're about to be passed?
Before hitting the trail, everyone should be aware of what they can to do make the trail an enjoyable space for everyone. With nearly 90 miles of trails in the District, ensuring that our users follow the rules of the road is essential to keeping our trails safe and enjoyable for all.
Ride your bike, jog, walk or roll to the free Share the Trail safety event, Saturday, May 30, 8:30 –11:30 a.m. at the Hudson Gardens and Event Center, along the Mary Carter Greenway Trail.
This annual event is designed to raise awareness of trail etiquette and safety for all who utilize trails throughout the area. It will feature entertainment, free bicycle services and giveaways, such as dog treats and leashes, trail maps, bike bells and lights, and other accessories geared toward trail safety. It’s fun for the entire family - including friendly dogs!
Presented by South Suburban Parks and Recreation, the City of Littleton and Hudson Gardens, and in partnership with Pedal, Giant Cycling World and Littleton Adventist Hospital, this community event promotes a companion trail safety awareness campaign, initiated in 2013, that featured a similar event along the Mary Carter Greenway Trail.
The location was purposely chosen, as the Mary Carter Greenway is the most highly-used trail in the District and is popular among commuters, bike and running enthusiasts as well as walkers and their dogs.
The event will take place at the Hudson Gardens picnic shelter. Access is available from the Mary Carter Greenway Trail. And, for those arriving by car, complimentary onsite parking also will be available in the Hudson Gardens parking lot.
