District Awarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
South Suburban’s Department of Finance is good with numbers, and so it’s no surprise that the department is routinely honored for its excellence in financial reporting. South Suburban's Department of Finance was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the Unites States and Canada, for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This marks the 14th year the District has received the prestigious award.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The District submitted a comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2014 for consideration for the award.
The District’s Steven Shipley, CPA, director of finance, and Linda Addison, CPA, chief accountant, prepared the document, which includes the independent auditors report, the audited financial statements, management, discussion and analysis, transmittal letter and the required statistical section.
The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
