Art Parties

Celebrate your birthday with a creative twist! Art parties for kids or adults include a room and art activity instruction. Choose from dance, clay, painting, cupcake decorating, theatre or the Creativity Lab.

Locations
Parties can be held at Buck, Goodson, Lone Tree, and Sheridan (Creativity Lab) recreation centers.

  • Clay - Create a clay project that will be glazed and fired. 
  • Painting - Create works of art on canvas.
  • Dance - Learn ballet, hip hop, jazz, or Broadway style dance. 
  • Theatre - "Acting Out: A Very Theatrical Celebration" (ages 6+) or "Masquerade: A Celebration of Disguise" (ages 5+).
  • Cupcakes at Lone Tree Recreation Center - Decorate cupcakes (ages 7+). 
  • Creativity Lab at Sheridan Recreation Center - Experience art like never before using a wide variety of fun and unique art supplies. 
Party Package
Two (2) hours of party time, including an hour-long lesson from a professional instructor.

$175 Resident / $190 Nonresident

Other Information
All parties ages 4+ unless otherwise noted. Each child under 4 must be accompanied by one adult.
Up to 15 participants maximum.

To Reserve Your Party

  • Fill out an Art Party Request Form. 
  • You may email questions to Kenzie Kosek: kkosek@ssprd.org.
  • After submitting your request form, you will receive an email from staff within a week confirming your party information. Your party is considered booked when full payment is received and you receive a confirmation receipt.

What days and times are parties available?
• Saturdays & Sundays starting between 9 am-1 pm.

How long is each party?
• Parties are two hours long. The first hour is spent with a professional instructor on the activity of your choice. See party descriptions on page 2 for each party style.
• The second hour is your party in the same room. You can bring cake, decorations, open gifts, and play games of your own. No alcohol is allowed.
 
What is the maximum number of participants?
15 is the maximum. This is to ensure a quality birthday party experience for your child.
 
What is the minimum age for Art & Enrichment parties?
• Children 4+ please. Kids/siblings younger than four must each have an adult present to assist during lesson.
• Adults can book art parties too!
• We also book Boy/Girl Scout badge lessons (weekday afternoons may be available).
 
Do you decorate the party room?
• No, we only provide materials for the art or enrichment lesson, tables and chairs.
• Feel free to bring your own decorations. There are typically four 6-foot rectangular tables provided if you wish to bring table cloths.
• Please do not bring helium balloons as they can get stuck in our ceiling fans.
 
Do you provide a party host?
• No, we only provide an instructor during the art or enrichment lesson.
• Feel free to bring anything of your own to entertain the group during your one hour room rental.
Cake, food and games are common items that families bring. No alcohol is allowed.
 
Can we go swimming after the art party?
With the additional cost of admission to the facility for each guest, you may go swimming afterwards! Remember to check the open swim schedule online or by calling the facility you’ve chosen before you make the decision.
 
Additional Information
• We recommend starting this process no less than 3 weeks before your requested party date.
• You will have access to the party room 30 minutes prior to the start of the birthday party to decorate.
• Please assemble your guests in the lobby before your party start time and bring them all to the activity room together. This ensures you receive the entire 1 hour art instruction experience.
• There will be a $45 charge if the space is left dirty or if guests are in the space longer than the scheduled end time.
• Parents/guardians are more than welcome to stay for Art Parties.

Party Descriptions

Clay: Our instructor will guide your child and guests through the process of creating an animal of your choice, silly monster, or coil or pinch flower pot. The children will glaze the piece and we will fire it (you’ll pick up one box with all items, ready in 7-10 days following the party).

Painting: The birthday child selects a subject and our instructor walks the group through the painting project. Popular themes include cupcakes, landscapes, and abstract art with special colors.

Dance: Our Academy of Dance instructors guide the children through some basic steps to create a special birthday dance. A theme chosen by the parent is encouraged (i.e. princess, hip hop, movie or character themed, etc.). You are welcome to bring props or have the children “dress up.”

Theatre:
Acting Out (ages 6+): Guests will play improvisational theatre games, learn to act out creative stories, and finish their activity with a fun improv performance. Costumes welcome.
Masquerade (ages 5+): Guests will paint and decorate elaborate masks and play improvisational games. For children ages 5-7, we kindly request parents remain present to assist kids in their mask creation process.

Cupcake Decorating: Decorate cupcakes for your party! All supplies for creating the cupcakes are included. You may provide themed cupcake toppers that you purchase on your own. Minimum age for all participants at Cupcake Decorating parties is 7 years old.

Creativity Lab: Parties at the Sheridan Recreation Center’s Creativity Lab are highly creative, challenging young artists to make art from new and repurposed items. The birthday child can choose a theme and the instructor will lead the group in painting on canvas or creating a 3-D project related to that theme.
