South Suburban Closures Due To Stay-At-Home Public Health Order

All playgrounds, golf courses, driving ranges and related golf facilities, tennis/pickleball courts, basketball courts and picnic areas and shelters are closed.

Parks and trails remain open and compliance with social distancing of at least six feet is required.

Violation of the public health order is a class 1 misdemeanor and may be punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 and imprisonment.

Recreation Complex

South Suburban is constructing a new regional recreation complex which includes:

  • Fieldhouse with two synthetic turf fields
  • Two gymnasiums with Pickleball courts
  • Three sheets of ice
  • District administrative offices

The new complex will not be a traditional recreation center or gym. South Suburban already owns and operates four full-service recreation centers, and two are within a 5 mile radius of the new recreation complex (Goodson & Lone Tree).

The project will replace the 50-year old  South Suburban Ice Arena and the South Suburban Administration Office.

The new facility will be 206,000 square-feet. It is being built just southwest of East County Line Road, and South Holly Street. The complex is expected to open in December 2020. The estimated project cost is nearly $61 million.
