Administration

South Suburban Park and Recreation District (SSPRD) is led by an Executive Director responsible for implementing the policies adopted by the board and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the District. The Executive Director provides leadership to three Deputy Executive Directors, the Finance Director, and the District Clerk and Legal & Risk Analyst, while each Deputy Executive Director oversees various Departments within the District. This team ensures SSPRD accomplishes the objectives set forth in the Strategic Plan and Master Plans.

Andy Bass began his tenure as South Suburban’s Executive Director on September 8, 2025. He holds more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience in parks, recreation and community services, including 15 of those years working in director-level positions. Prior to South Suburban, he served as the Deputy City Manager for the City of Chandler in Arizona.

Bass holds a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional certification and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from the University of Utah and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado.

Brent Berninger’s professional experience in parks and recreation spans more than 24 years, managing recreation, golf, and family services departments. He joined South Suburban in January 2026, after serving as the Recreation and Golf Manager for the City of Lakewood. Berninger earned an undergraduate degree in health and physical education from Oral Roberts University and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Colorado State University Global Campus. Brent is also a Certified Parks and Recreation Executive through the National Recreation and Parks Association.

Lisa Narrell has more than 20 years of human resources and organizational leadership experience, including nearly two decades in public parks and recreation. Before joining South Suburban in 2018, she served for more than nine years with Foothills Park & Recreation District. She advanced from Director of Human Resources to Deputy Executive Director. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management from Illinois State University and a Master of Science in Strategic Human Resource Management from the University of Denver, along with PHR and SHRM-CP certifications.

Nicole Stehlik’s nearly 20 years of recreation experience includes 10+ with South Suburban. She was hired by the District in 2016 as the Athletic Manager, advancing to the Deputy Executive Director position in January 2026. Prior to her time at South Suburban, Stehlik managed athletics and the Miller Activity Complex for the City of Castle Rock. She holds a bachelor's degree in Sports Management & Business Management from Doane College, where she was named to their Athletics Hall of Fame for her stellar track and field career.
