Art on Loan: Celebrating New Art at Goodson

Jun 28 2021

Each year, South Suburban’s Public Art Committee selects and displays art pieces to inspire and enhance our community. Help us congratulate the 2021 Art on Loan Program selections at our upcoming dedication event!

Our Board chose the following pieces as the 2021/22 Art on Loan selections:

Jack-Knife, by Stephen Shachtman
Artist description: "Jack-Knife is part of Stephen's Monolith series he started creating in 2014. The Jack-Knife form is inspired by a tool used by bench jewelers to pull back prongs on stone settings, while the hammered colored circles represent the stones."

Peche, by Charlotte Zink
Artist description: "Mermaids, water lovers, and poets are welcome to take a pause here, with our whimsical fishes, and daydream for a while."

Dependence, by Tina Suszynski
Artist description: "I have always been fascinated with watching people interact, or fail to interact, build communities, and tear them down. With Dependence, I ask the viewer to consider dichotomies. Are these abstracted torsos, rounded and closed off, teetering, one over the other, engaged in a perilous attempt to own the sun, to be at the top, or is this a supportive interaction between members of a healthy community? Do we displace nature for our own purposes whatever the cost, or do we acknowledge our reliance on a healthy planet?"

South Suburban is hosting a dedication and reception on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Goodson Recreation Center. All interested art lovers are invited to stop by to see the art, congratulate the artists and learn more about their pieces. We hope to see you there!
