Universal Pre-K at South Suburban

South Suburban’s Child Discovery Time is proud to be partnering with Colorado’s Universal Pre-K Program to make early education accessible and affordable to all families! UPK is available for children 4-year-olds who will be entering Kindergarten the following year. Families are encouraged to apply for UPK services through the UPK Website (see below). Families can then choose either the Goodson Child Discovery Time or Lone Tree Discovery Time Programs to enroll. Universal Pre-K will cover 10 or 15 hours of preschool and families will be responsible for covering the remaining hours of childcare.

Frequently Asked Questions

You are not required to pay for the entire semester. You will be charged automatically on the 1st of the month. We will take payment for the first month that your child is registered for as well as the annual registration. We will then enroll your family in a monthly payment plan.

Toilet Trained Requirement: The child must be able to tell the teacher they need to go to the bathroom, and be able to go to the bathroom (both urinating and bowel movements) on their own. This includes being able to remove clothing, sitting on the toilet, wiping themselves, putting clothing back on, flushing the toilet, and washing and drying their hands. A child must be aware of the need to use the toilet without reminders from the teachers (although, teachers do make requests of children at various times of the day). The child must not be in diapers or pull‐ups at all. They must be in regular underwear. Our staff is aware that accidents happen.

Our Child Discovery Time programs use three different prospectuses to help develop the whole child. Zoo-Phonics help children learn the alphabet, phonemic awareness, rhyming, pre-sound blending, and pre-writing skills. With Zoo-Phonics we are able to connect phonemic awareness to the alphabet with math, art, physical education, drama, music, nutrition, science, social studies and self-help skills. Our second part focuses on Social and Emotional Learning, or SEL for short. Research in SEL shows that when combined with education, SEL has a positive impact on outcomes including academic performance, healthy relationships, mental wellness and decision making. Our goal with SEL is to help develop self-aware, caring, inclusive, and responsible lifelong learners. The last part of our curriculum includes the Colorado Department of Education’s School Readiness Guide. The CDE school readiness assessments are research-based and are a great tool to help measure school readiness. Using the assessments, we are able to identify and provide additional support in areas of growth to ensure children who leave our pre-kindergarten classrooms are ready for Kindergarten!

Parent Testimonials

All three of my children attended preschool and pre-k at Lone Tree. The staff have been kind and helped each one of my kids prepare for school. We had a great experience!

Becky R.

We joined the Lone Tree Rec Center pre-k program mid-semester after our childcare fell through and we were greeted with warm open arms. The teachers and director worked in sync and really cared about our kids - they even helped us get additional support for my son who needed some occupational therapy. Both of my kids liked the activities at the rec center, and we always felt comfortable dropping them off.

Kelly H.

Both of my children attended the pre-k program at Lone Tree. They were very accommodating to my children's needs and both of my kids formed great relationships with the teachers and staff. It was a great experience, and both of my kids still talk about their teachers and friends!
