Pickleball

Have you heard of Pickleball? This badminton/tennis/table tennis-like sport is the fastest growing sport in South Suburban. This fun and social game is perfect for all ages, easy to learn and provides a great physical workout. Want to join in? Read through the skill ratings to find out where you stand, and explore our offerings below.

1.0 to 2.0 Skill Rating:
This player is just starting to play pickleball and has no other sports background. Minimal understanding of rules of the game.

2.5 Skill Rating:
This player has limited experience. Can sustain a short rally with players of equal ability. Basic ability to keep score.

3.0 Skill Rating:
Ability to hit a medium paced shot. Lacks directional intent and consistency. Avoids using a backhand. Lacks directional intent and consistency. Not able to consistently sustain a dink rally. Not yet developed the ability to control a 3rd shot drop. Understands fundamentals. Is learning proper court positioning. Knows the fundamental rules and can keep score and could now play in tournaments.

3.5 Skill Rating:
Improved stroke development with moderate level of shot control of forehand and backhand. Consistently gets serve/return in play with limited ability to control depth. Developing the 3rd shot drop in a way to get to the net. Moves quickly towards the non-volley zone (NVZ) when opportunity is there. Acknowledges difference between hard game and soft game and is starting to vary own game during recreation and tournament play. Can sustain short rallies. Is learning proper court positioning. 

4.0 Skill Level:
Consistently hits forehand and backhand with depth and control. Is still perfecting shot selection and timing. Aware of partner’s position on the court and is able to move as a team. Demonstrates ability to change direction in an offensive manner. Demonstrates a broad knowledge of the rules of the game. Has a moderate number of unforced errors per game. Solid understanding of stacking and when and how it could be used in match play. Beginning to identify opponents weaknesses and attempts to formulate game plan to attack weaknesses. Beginning to seek out more competitive play.

Classes

Boot Camps
Go from newbie to expert over the course of four training sessions. This camp is for beginner and intermediate players ages 18 and up.  Learn to play Pickleball, get a great workout and have fun.

Clinics
Geared towards beginners, these one-time, 2-hour sessions are for adults ages 18+. Come learn the basics of the sport while meeting new friends.

Sports Complex Drop-In
Pre-register to play Pickleball in our brand new facility! Whether you are an advanced, intermediate, or beginner player we have dedicated time for you to play. All times are for open play. Patrons may arrive the day of on a first come, first serve basis for any open spots remaining.

Private Lessons

Private and Semi-Private Lessons

South Suburban Parks and Recreation offers private (1 person) and semi-private (2-4 persons) lessons at the Cornerstone Park Outdoor Pickleball Courts, SSPRD Sports Complex or any SSPRD recreation center. Each session is one-hour long. Rates for lessons are as follows:

Private Lessons (1 person) Semi-Private Lessons (2-4 persons)
1 session - $30 (district) / $33 (non-district) 1 session - $20 per person (district) / $23 per person (non-district)

Refund Policy:  No refund will be provided if the patron cancels the lesson within three days of the scheduled lesson time. 

Leagues

Pickleball Leagues 2023

Join us for the best pickleball fun you can have this side of the Mississippi!

  • Spring, summer and fall leagues are offered at the Cornerstone Park pickleball courts (5150 S Windermere St Littleton, CO 80120). Winter matches are played at the South Suburban Ice Arena, which has been converted to Tennis/Pickleball courts (6580 S Vine St, Centennial, CO 80121)
  • Leagues days and times will be updated per season. Currently indoor leagues at SSIA are for Men's (Monday), Women's (Wednesday), and Mixed Doubles  (Saturday) for 3.0 - 3.5 intermediate level. 
  • Cost varies per league and number of weeks. Players are required to pay in full at time of registration.

It's almost tournament season!

Join us for our three annual doubles tournaments at Cornerstone Park, 5150 s Windermere St, Littleton, co 80120. these tournaments are self rated and will offer men's, women's and mixed doubles.

Outdoor Courts

Cornerstone Park Pickleball Courts

Come check out our outdoor Pickleball courts at Cornerstone Park!  The six outdoor courts are located at the SE corner of the park with the entrance to the parking lot located off of South Hickory Street.  The Pickleball courts feature:

  • 6 outdoor courts with permanent nets
  • Push-button operated lighting at night (year-round)
  • Shade pavilion with seating and tables
  • Senior Shelter with restrooms nearby
  • Horseshoes, shuffle board, inline hockey rink, and skate park nearby

Lone Tree Recreation Center Pickleball Courts (COMING SOON - Summer 2023)

Come check out our new outdoor Pickleball courts at Lone Tree Recreation Center!  The six outdoor courts are located at the SE corner of the parking lot of the facility.  The Pickleball courts feature:

  • 6 outdoor courts with permanent nets
  • Push-button operated lighting at night (year-round)
  • Shade pavilion with seating and tables

Rent the Courts Today!

  • Cost per court:
    • $10/hr (district residents with up-to-date SSPR ID cards) - Non-Prime Time
    • $12/hr (non-residents) - Non-Prime Time
    • $20/hr (district residents with up-to-date SSPR ID cards) - Prime Time (7:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m. & 4:00-8:00 p.m.)
    • $30/hr (non-residents) - Prime Time (7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. & 4:00-8:00 p.m.)
  • A 24 hour notice is required, for maintenance and scheduling purposes.

Other Outdoor Courts within the District

Players must bring their own portable net(s), paddles, and balls to play. Tennis courts are lined as such, and do not have Pickleball lines.
