South Suburban helps youth navigate tough teen and pre-teen years

Sep 09 2019

Being a pre-teen and teenager in today’s world is tough. It’s tougher still trying to successfully navigate the often exciting, yet sometimes tumultuous teen and pre-teen years. South Suburban is supporting youth in the community with two classes that help teens positively deal with their emotions and get physically active.

Dance it Out is a youth Zumba® class for ages 11-14. The class gets kids moving to create endorphins, which aid in handling anxiety and depression. The class is open to both boys and girls and features 30 minutes of dance fitness and wraps up with a discussion. There is no judgement; only good vibes and lots of fun! The class is Tuesdays, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m., and begins on October 1 at Goodson Recreation Center, 6315 South University Boulevard.

Zumba® Kids is a high-energy, fun-filled class for ages 7-11. The dance-fitness party appeals to young children who like to play it loud and rock with friends to their own rules. It features age-appropriate music and moves that get kids moving to the beat. Zumba® Kids is offered Thursdays, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m., at Goodson Recreation Center, 6315 South University Boulevard; and Saturdays, 1 - 1:45 p.m., at Buck Recreation Center, 2004 West Powers Avenue.
