Share the Trail 2014 : A Free Safety Awareness Event

Jun 27 2014

Do you know what to do when you're about to pass another person on the trail? How about when you're jogging? Or biking? Or horse-riding? What about when you're about to be passed?

Before hitting the trail, everyone should be aware of what they can to do make the trail an enjoyable space for everyone. With nearly 90 miles of trails in the District, ensuring that our users follow the rules of the road is essential to keeping our trails safe and enjoyable for all.

That's why we've partnered with the City of Littleton to create the free safety event, Share the Trail! Ride your bike, jog, walk or roll to this fun and educational event for the entire family, including friendly dogs, on Sat., July 12, from 8 – 11 a.m. at Hudson Gardens, along the popular Mary Carter Greenway Trail in Littleton.

Why should I go?

Entertainment, free bicycle services and giveaways are planned to help promote awareness of trail etiquette and safety for all who utilize the trail. Giveaways will include dog treats and leashes, trail maps, bike bells and lights, and other accessories geared to trail safety.

The event is presented by South Suburban Park and Recreation District and the City of Littleton, and includes the following partners: Pedal, Natural Balance Pet Foods, Giant Cycling World, Littleton Adventist Hospital and WD40 Bike.

Share the Trail is a community event that promotes a companion trail safety awareness campaign, initiated in 2013 that featured a similar event, also held along the Mary Carter Greenway Trail. The location was purposely chosen, as the Mary Carter Greenway is the most highly used trail in the District, and is popular among commuters, bike and running enthusiasts as well as walkers and their dogs.

How do I get there?

The event takes place at the picnic shelter at the Hudson Gardens and Events Center, 6115 South Santa Fe Dr., Littleton. Access is available from the Mary Carter Greenway Trail.  And, for those arriving by car, complimentary onsite parking also is available at the Hudson Gardens parking lot.
