South Suburban and Highlands Ranch Metro District partner to build disc golf course

Dec 11 2019

South Suburban Parks and Recreation (SSPR) and Highlands Ranch Metro District (HRMD) are partnering to construct a professionally designed 18-hole disc golf course at the West Fork Open Space in Highlands Ranch. The 60-acre West Fork Open Space is located west of South Broadway between Plaza Drive and Highlands Ranch Parkway.

The Douglas County Planning Commission and the South Suburban and HRMD boards officially approved the West Fork Disc Golf Course. SSPR will contribute $160,000 to the project, and HRMD will fund $320,000.

“We are excited about our partnership with HRMD to provide a quality 18-hole course in the south metro area. We know that disc golf has a strong following and is popular with South Suburban and Highlands Ranch residents,” said Rob Hanna, SSPR executive director.

HRMD will lead the design and construction of the new course. The course is tentatively scheduled to open in May 2020. HRMD will be responsible for managing and maintaining the disc golf course and the adjoining parking lot. The disc course will be free to the public.

SSPR is building a regional recreation complex at the former site of the disc golf course at David A. Lorenz Regional Park. Construction of the new facility began in mid-April 2019.
