South Suburban’s Manager of Adult and Youth Hockey, Amidon Miche, was honored with the Trailblazer Award at the 52nd Annual Sportswomen of Colorado Awards Celebration on March 8. The celebration honors girls and women in sport and the key contributors whose leadership, impact, and athletic achievements have advanced women’s athletics across Colorado and beyond.
“The 2025 class highlights multi-generational honorees whose lifelong dedication to competition continues to shape and inspire sport in Colorado,” said Sportswomen of Colorado Executive Director Jennifer Anderson-Ehrlich. “They embody excellence and leadership across every level of sport, and they are not only outstanding competitors, but also a remarkable group of individuals.”
Amidon is a true pioneer in women’s ice hockey, leaving a lasting impact on the sport. She joined the South Suburban team in 2021 and led the top Try Hockey for Free clinics in the past four years, with a record number of community members attending the events. Under her direction, new programs have included Lady Learn to Play, women’s skill clinics, a women’s adult hockey league division, and a new coed adult Black Aces Lunch league. Amidon has been instrumental with growing the Arapahoe Lady Warrior brand offering 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U all-female team options.
“Amidon has proven success at every level of the game and brings her knowledge and passion to the ice every day,” said Bill Dobbs, General Manager of Ice & Sports Operations at South Suburban. “Her commitment to growing the game of women’s hockey is unmatched and our community has greatly benefited from her leadership.”
At St. Lawrence University, Amidon excelled as a student-athlete and was honored as a Legend of Appleton Arena in May 2025 for her contributions on and off the ice. She also represented the U.S. National Women’s Hockey Team, showcasing her elite skill and dedication on the world stage.
Beyond her playing career, Amidon spent 10 seasons coaching at Bowdoin College, including nine as the head coach, where she led her teams to four NCAA tournament appearances and two NESCAC championships. She later accepted roles as USA Hockey’s first Director of Women’s Hockey and General Manager of the USA Women’s National and Olympic Teams, while sitting on the International Ice Hockey Federations women’s committee to help the game grow globally. Amidon is also a member of the Female Hockey Advisory Committee to the NHL and NHLPA, and a Female Ambassador to the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche. Her leadership has had a significant impact on the broader hockey community, particularly on the growth of women’s hockey in the United States.
“This award is a culmination of my hard work, love, and dedication to women’s hockey,” said Amidon. “I am so thankful for my incredible support system that includes my family, coaches, players, and other mentors that have helped me on this journey. South Suburban has provided me with a tremendous platform to make an impact, and I look forward to growing the game of women’s hockey.”
